A recession isn't solely for counting losses, it's a time to re-assess your branding and build on it, ready for when economy improves. There are those out there that are, and they will be your competition.
Australians don't want it. ISP's don't want it. It wont stop porn. It wont stop the paedophiles. It wont stop piracy. The Internet will cost more for a slower service. It wont prevent terrorists.
To blog or not to blog, that is the question! It’s also a question that has been asked a lot over the years.
Blogs have become a highly networked collaboration of online knowledge, communication and research. Mechanisms provide the possibility for blogs to link to each other and provide possibilities for networking and the sharing of knowledge in a public and simple manner. People are now realizing they can do a lot more with blogs.
A blogs content can classify the purpose of the blog. You’ve probably read a blog before and not known it as a blog. Personal blogs, refer to blogs that talks about the blogger himself. Other classifications include photoblogs, moblogs, vblogs, podcast blogs and business blogs.
I know, I know …. another blog about social networking! Yes folks, it is. There seems to be a trend here doesn’t there?
More than likely your arrival here is the result of social networking! How many of you found your way here from the likes of my blog being Twittered about, then my Twitter fed into my other social networking sites and other blogs. What a snowball hey!
But it was inevitable. I knew when I first heard that retarded dial tone when I first connected to dial-up on the Internet, that we would have to start watching our P’s & Q’s.
Not only is Big Brother watching… most of the world’s online community is watching!
More & more small business websites are making their way onto the world wide web. No longer do small businesses need reminding the importance of a web presence. They get it.
But what then?
Too many small businesses are regarding their website as a business card or brochure. But just take a moment. How many business cards, brochures & stamps can you buy for the price of a website? Then it stands to reason that a website should be taken a little more seriously. Just leaving it there is like having one VERY expensive business card. Yet it can be so much more!
Simply put…. Websites need to be worked! Here’s 5 reasons why.
There’s been a lot of opinions, articles, blog, MySpace, FaceBook, Twitter and any other media on Ashton Kutcher’s [@aplusk] Twitter challenge to CNN. What started off as a bit of fun & frivolity soon became a bone of contention for many so-called “serious” Twitterites.
So what happened that made having fun on social networks and microblogs such a crime?
I sat back and had a laugh every time I saw something about it. It’s not like Ashton wasn’t a serious twitter’er before hand. The man incessantly tweets about all kinds of things, just like many other people we know. That he has become so popular really is a testimony to the value of his entity and interaction. In my opinion he has added value to the Twitter universe. He’s added family [@mrskutcher], added photos, added videos, taken the Twitterverse to the Academy Awards after party, has introduced us to all manner of celebrities and humanized them.
The word was out! Our illustrious Minister for Communications, Mr Stephen Conroy, was going to be on the panel of Q&A on the ABC television channel. Those on the panel for tonight’s show were Minister for Communications, Stephen Conroy; Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Greg Hunt; columnist, Andrew Bolt; and Muslim sociologist, Susan Carland.
It was evident at the beginning what was going to be the main topic of conversation, the clean feed filter “black list”. Just in case you have been living under a rock, its at www.wikileaks.org (but sssshhhh, you didn’t hear it from me!). The audience was charged, there were a stack of emails introduced at the beginning of the show, and there was pretty clear unison among the panel on their concern for a “black list” (except Mr Andrew Bolt, who had to remind those vocally opposed to the filter that they were probably being alarmists and were likely not being “morally” responsible in our judgment of it).
9.30pm AEST the Twitter posts start, and I sat back and watched as they followed the time zones across the country. The opposition to the ACMA and Minister Conroy was evident. Yet, still we watched him unravel like a ball of wool being played with by cheeky kitties. The body language was evident. Constantly drinking, sucking on his bottom lip and the lack of eye contact, showed that he wasn’t expecting the opposition he hit. When the topic is addressed he is full of smiles and smugness. However, as it moved along the panel the smile continued to drop and turned into a nervous laugh.
Lately I’ve seen a lot of people asking, in various forums & social groups…
“Am I a Web Designer?”
or
“What skills should I have to be a web designer?“
This prompted me to peruse the job ads floating around to see what’s progressing around the traps, and what companies and design houses are looking for.
If you’re actually pursuing a web designer role with any business, expect for the employer to ask for the world. Many have no idea “who” they actually require, and the rest just want the biggest bang for their buck. However, IMO anyone who says they know how to do everything, has very limited skills in any of the disciplines. I wouldn’t hire a plumber to do an electricians job, even though they both know how a house is built.
