Who says you can’t have Accessible Portals??
by sandman6210 ~ August 23rd, 2006. Filed under: development.Congratulations to Search and Go who have joined the rare few portals that are actually accessible and adhere to W3C web coding standards!
For too long I have been hearing how “it’s just not possible sometimes because of tools”. Well, this is proving to be an antiquated arguement these days! With a little thought & work it is indeed possible, including such sections as S&G’s weather, which also passes.
It really is becoming to late in the piece for webmasters or site owners to argue that it’s too much effort. If you are paying for a website to be designed, it should be expected that your site is built to standards. You require no less of other items in your life, why should you accept sub standards websites from designers who haven’t bothered to keep up with the times.
We do concede that there are certain items on a website that are unable to meet these standards, however, these should not be used as an excuse for the rest of the site to meet inferior standards.
TOLRA Microsystems has been producing a directory script, and a link exchange script that meets all the required standards, yet I keep seeing some pretty shoddy scripts being used. As a directory owner myself (example), it surprises me that they have’nt been indundated with sales of their script.
